What happened in the end with the Contributor Covenant on Github?

I remember a while ago the abomination called Contributor Covenant came out and was opposed by quite a few people.

Came upon their website recently which contained a list of the projects that implemented it and was sad to see that people actually agree with it's contents which openly go against the idea of meritocracy?

So in the end nothing was done to counter it and it was silently implemented out of fear of not being politically correct?

I'm asking this because it feels that at this rate everything will be more focused on what gender or race you are part of rather than what you are capable of producing (programming-wise) and in turn end up with very low quality products filled with poli-gender-fluid neutral variables and what-not.
