Where can I find a programming friend?

How can I find a friend to code with? Like preferably around my area. Just someone I can get together with and code. Not necessarily working on the same thing, but someone I can bounce stuff off of and stuff and ask questions of and stuff? I never got a degree in CS, and I've never worked for a company doing web stuff, so I don't really have any friends in "the biz".
I live in Knoxville, TN, and I mostly program in javascript and a some python.

You can often find "users groups" and other meetups for various programming languages, OSes, and technologies. Meetup.com is a decent place to start. Or trying searching for "programming meetup <city>" and similar. If you want, tell us what languages you like and where you are... maybe someone here can point you in the right direction.

Another good place to look is at local hackerspaces, if there are any in the author's area. These tend to focus more on hardware than pure software projects, but you'll find people knowledgable in both those areas and more. The few hackerspaces I've visited have been wonderfully collaborative and friendly.

Came to suggest this. I've helped people build wood objects, and they help me code.

Not trying to hijack this discussion, but if anyone knows of any android studio developers in Minneapolis please PM me, I've been looking for a tutor with no luck. I'm an upcoming CS Senior if that makes any difference.

IRC can be a pretty nice place to find a community. Same with Github, start looking through open issues on projects you're interested on, ask if they're interested in a PR, rinse and repeat. Or I guess you could try attending some sort of developer conference? Meetup is probably the best idea, just wanted to offer some alternative suggestions that weren't posted already.
