Appreciating Code as Art

What are some great examples of code that can be described as just gorgeous, beautiful work, in a way that only programmers would understand? Code that's so well done that you just think "damn, I wish my work was this good."
When Steve Jobs presented the NeXT Cube, he made a big deal about the design of the logic board being the most glorious design of its kind, not just in terms of function but in terms of being beautiful in itself. People mocked him for this, because almost no one would look at the logic board, and if they did, few people would understand the nuanced design elements that make it beautiful in its way. Only experts in the field can recognize the difference between great work and sloppy work; novices just see a tangle of electronics.
