Surely unrelated activities should not be a reason to "fire" someone, but I think their letter uses a suboptimal argument.

Being "pro-tolerance, pro-diversity, and pro-inclusion" is not really a compelling argument towards anything at all, it's just more ideological chaff (and also most often the exact reason for firing someone because of activities that are not part of the job, so it would easily be turned around against them).

The real compelling argument is simply that endeavors not related to the project should not influence decisions concerning the job, simple as that. If the job or contribution to the project is done well, it does not matter if you are a serial killer, literally Htiler or a reptilian from outer space.

Yeah I got the feeling they were trying to use SJW language, in order to blockade it being used against them.

Either that, or it may just be considered a part of common courtesy now that you have to emphasize how inclusive and diverse you can be.

Still, the exact reason they are using against exclusion of a member now is much more often used as a pro-argument instead of a counter. And likely it will be here as well, to get rid of the project leader now...

The word you're looking for here is 'discrimination'.

Yeah it's called mind your fucking own business 101.

people have a long history of screwing each other over in an attempt at controlling other people's sex lives.

Sounds like Drupal (whatever the fuck that is!) is full of degenerate leftist scum...throw them all out, get better people.

It is a Content Management System for websites, like WordPress.

AKA an open shell with a nice blog attached to it.

BDSM knows no political affiliation. No fetish does. Hell, most pedophiles seem to align themselves with the right, at least the powerful ones like the British parliament or the Catholic Church. That doesn't mean pedophilia is a right wing issue though.

just fork the project without the head. Easy.

The head of the project was upset he wasn't the only person whipping/beating and making the life of the member painful, except in a non-consensual way.

From Dries:

"In the end, I fundamentally believe that all people are created equally. This belief has shaped the values that the Drupal project has held since it's early days. I cannot in good faith support someone who actively promotes a philosophy that is contrary to this. The Gorean philosophy promoted by Larry is based on the principle that women are evolutionarily predisposed to serve men and that the natural order is for men to dominate and lead."

So if he reverses and offers the person a place back, why the hell would said person accept it? and if it is a paid position that they did accept why wouldn't they be looking for something else right away, as it would only be a matter of time before they were fired for something else.

Having a steady income while looking for a way out into another job, even if management causes overhang is still better than having none while searching for a new line of work.

Dries has to quit Acquia or Drupal now.

Remember: They are "tolerant of other views" as long as they are in the list of "approved" views.

There are a million differnt reasons you can come up with for firing someone. He must have known this would be a problem. Let them resign.who cares what they're complaining about. They can all be replaced.
