Yeah, rewrite it in another language.
A straight rewrite in a language other than Fortran will very likely make it slower. What language did you have in mind?
Drumroll: C/C++. https://benchmarksgame.alioth.debian.org/u64q/fortran.html and that's just GCC, which isn't the fastest compiler.
Hand crafted machine language not even using an assembler :)
The sensitive nature of the code means the competition is only open to US citizens who are over 18.
Doesn't Nasa realise the folks will keep their own copies to distribute underground?
