Is there a GPL type of license that is good for maintaining creative control of an Open Source project?

Thanks. I am working to roll out my site in Q3 of this year and at that time I will make it Open Source if I can use a license which will allow me to maintain "creative" control over the main branch.

Any licenses you guys prefer to use to get help on your own pet projects without giving them away?

Keeping the source closed wouldn't serve my ultimate purpose because the product itself purports to be a transparent tool. So I would like to protect it intellectually while making the code available for other fair uses that don't infringe on my specific "flavor".

I dunno what to tell you. Maybe not having any sort of license would work best. It wouldn't be GPL, and it wouldn't be copywritten.

FWIW, I didn't bother trying to play the patent game with my first business.

My thinking is to do a kickstarter after some preliminary protections of some kind. The kickstarter could raise money for a patent and then I would be comfortable opening up the code.

I don't get it. No matter what license you choose you will retain control over the "main branch". You are the dictator of the project you can accept or reject any contributions any others make.

I wish you'd discuss this a little more: most people would say anonymity enables people to speak freely, but also hampers efforts to identify fakes. Of course censorship also hampers genuine discussion around here..

Genuine speech is very important to me. Even a well intentioned site like this quickly becomes swamped by various parties interested in controlling the narrative. When the accounts are free and anonymous, there is no way to know who is being honest and/or what the group actually believes as the voats are manipulated. For many people who don't spend a ton of time researching, a site like this is valuable to learn both sides of issues. How many times have you skipped reading an article because the hottest comments below it either summarized or debunked? It would be nice if people could rely on that, as they can no longer rely on the Media to be honest or unbiased.

My system aims to confront this problem directly. I am not at a stage, however where I want to discuss the details publicly.

Yes, that's one side of the coin. But clearly people cannot speak freely when they are concerned about the personal repercussions of comments that can be traced back to them. Your system will be of little interest to many on voat without addressing that somehow.

I agree 100%. Tell you what we can do. You go ahead and post all of your personal information in a reply to this (Just full name and a/s/l). Then we can all know who you are and we can see if your theory works.
