I wanna get into learning Python. Is Codecademy a good resource?

I've heard both good and bad things about it. What's the general consensus on this site? Is it worth my time? And if it isn't, please suggest alternatives. Thanks!

I recommend Learn Python the Hard Way. Its a good book that gives you options for windows, GNU/Linux, and apple. Its available free online Here.

It's good up until the point it is not good. Just start learning, and when you think you've hit a wall, look for more (maybe better) resources.

I tried codeacademy for python, but didn't get along with it - IME there was not much in the way of thinking for yourself. I didn't get much out of it and gave up very quickly.
I'm now halfway through the 6.0001x Introduction to python course with edX (MITx) and am actually learning a hell of a lot, very quickly.

It is for a while. After a while, I used a book. The best part of it is that there are so many Monty Python references, in almost every single lesson.

WebDev course was really interesting to me, but PHP was boring from the start (maybe that's because of the language)

I think it works best for people who are learning programming in general for the first time. It definitely could still be useful though, if that is not your case. I would just try it out and find what works for you. If anything it certainly offers a good introduction.

I've found Dive Into Python a free and fairly straight forward text to read, especially coming from another language.
