Where can I find a list of best practices

I have always seen other programmers spout off best practices in blogs/articles/etc but I have never really found out where they learn these best practices. Can anyone provides links to articles/blogs/books that you would recommend? I really want to become a better programmer but I always feel that there is some club where all the secrets are and I can't get in!
Language specific best practices are cool too!

I think a book like Programming Pearls would help give you insight into best practices. It isn't much, but it is a start.

Coding best practices are battle tested in real life. You should not treat them as ultimate truth, but rather as a clue. If it fits you and your team go on and use it. If not, adapt to your needs or find better ones. You can read for example: Google guidelines
Just type in Google best practices, recommendation, guidelines + language name. Of course official materials/company/MVP/books contains more reliable hints.
