the solution is simple, don't use the trash known as java.

Would be nice, but too many companies still like to force their developers to use it so we still gotta know it.

What's the difference between the Open JDK and Oracle's JDK?

Should I even continue with this funky, picky language or should I just switch to Python? Or maybe even R or some other scripting language? I started learning Java because I have a book around about it and I wanted to learn object oriented programming, and I figured I'd rewrite some old engineering code in Fortran to help learn it. Now after getting about 4 months into it I am finding that a lot of people seem to be abandoning it for stuff that's easier to work with.

I've messed around with some Javascript and some PHP, and have background in old procedural stuff like Fortran and Pascal, but I thought I'd get into a real language and learn object oriented programming. I'm pretty deep into Java at this point, and while this object oriented stuff is cool in a way, I certainly don't need any of it to do what I want, but, as I said, it is kind of cool, and I was figuring it would be worth knowing in the future. Should I keep wrestling with this beast or go with something else that's less verbose that's not going to charge me if I produce some commercial stuff someday?

Too bad that Minecraft requires Java to run.
I still find Minecraft to be one of the best games ever made (modded Minecraft that is).
