Having been encouraged by clients to adopt a written code of conduct, the SQLite developers elected to govern their interactions with each other, with their clients, and with the larger SQLite user community in accordance with the "instruments of good works" from chapter 4 of The Rule of St. Benedict. This code of conduct has proven its mettle in thousands of diverse communities for over 1,500 years, and has served as a baseline for many civil law codes since the time of Charlemagne.
Yeah that's the obvious part, but the same could be said for some of the bullshit being pushed in the mainstream today. It seems like total insanity on the surface so when people actually buy into it you start to wonder if you're the crazy one. The fact that I already have to think twice about something like this tells me that I'm in the Twilight Zone.
I just implemented it for a small work project. I don't know why I ever used Excel. Basically zero setup required. Downsides are if you're working with multiple people things like saved queries and data entry forms basically don't exist.
The first spinster on sqlites homepage is Mozilla. I wonder how long their sponsorship lasts? I habe been to a few Mozilla events and they normally strike me as a very progressive sjw type lot.
This seems a bit too traditional to be to their liking...
Radical leftists will get so triggered smoke will be billowing from their ears thus being further exposed as completely humorless and unable to take a joke ... and voila, an SJW free database. Then they will call for a boycott and try to shut it down thus being further exposed as censorious tyrants. Perfect!

No idea if these guys really do have iron balls or if they got hacked/trolled. This is wild stuff and will no doubt have some fun blow-back.

They have millitary contracts and proper customers instead of being funded by an org like Linux, they're bulletproof.

That's somewhat interesting.

I think they're taking a jab at the whole idea of a CoC. Either way it looks like I may move to using exclusively SQLite for personal projects.
0 u/sherrybean 22 Oct 2018 21:25
Agreed. CoC is useless. This was funny as hell for people that get it. Sadly, Many will not get it.

In this age of libtard absurdity, it's hard to tell if people are serious or joking.
0 u/BUTTHOLE__EMPRESS 23 Oct 2018 01:05
They are quoting the ten commandments, can't be serious :)

slap an api server that works with the file on top of that and problem solved.

You only need the first 2 rules.
0 u/Wonder_Boy 22 Oct 2018 21:25
On those hang the law and the prophets.

Amen.

I like them all. And some folks might need a little reinforcement.
0 u/LazyTwit 22 Oct 2018 21:56
This is amazing.

Reading upset reactions to this CoC has been the highlight of my day so far.

Aren't number 6 and 65 redundant?

Freudian slip?
0 u/Gozer_the_Gozerian 23 Oct 2018 01:02
This is the right way to deal with SJWs. Don't take them seriously.
0 u/qotile 23 Oct 2018 01:02
Hitting feminists where it hurts
0 u/BUTTHOLE__EMPRESS 23 Oct 2018 01:04
LOL great comeback to their clients trying to censor. Also, another LOL that their clients actually would switch, SQLite is robust and cheap.
0 u/StrangeThingsAfoot 23 Oct 2018 14:29
I don't know what anyone would switch to. For an embedded database there's what else... Apache Derby? SQL CE?
0 u/nzmc 23 Oct 2018 01:13
why now?
0 u/hfkmfn 26 Oct 2018 14:03
Slashdot. The Rule of St. Benedict was done months ago but it only got noticed in a viral way this week.
0 u/Thereunto 23 Oct 2018 01:28
This is a great counter-play to CoC demands, but I irksomely disagree with some of St. Benedict's talking points.

Amazing. I was mad when I read the title. Then decided to read the code of conduct. Epic.
