'Another Perl developer, Damien Conway, has argued in favor of "Raku," in reference to the Rakudo Perl 6 compiler. '

'Some Perl devs describe Perl 6 as a different, though related, programming language to Perl 5. '

So perl 6 devs want to throw away the hated perl name and perl 5 devs don't want divergent perl 6 to soil perl 5's reputation. What's the problem then? Just rename it.

I did perl programming for a while but I have to say it's not just the name. The entire community is angry and bitter and has been for some time.

I think of the perl community as a poster child for how toxicity can really cause harm.
