[META] branching into a new subverse for programming opinion/news/politics posts?

Since a lot of posts like ones talking about github's political choices recently seem to be controversial from at least some of the mods' perspectives, is there enough reason/support/content to branch into a programming news type subverse whicgh?
I'm not sure if there's a huge amount of support, as /v/programming seems to be where a lot of news related stuff goes already.
I like the idea that /v/programming doesn't just contain strictly code, but is more a general "come here, those interested in programming in general" like /v/technology is a place where people interested in tech go to see not just technology, but news about technology.

News are fine and appreciated. It's more the current drama that's going on. Drama isn't really news either, it's .. drama. My bets currently are that the current drama wave will disappear quickly again shortly, so right now, I don't worry that it'll be a long term annoyance. So, it's "fine".

Hello again,
It looks like you're still tired of the github in action type posts... I don't think they will die any time soon, either.
In light of this,
I would like to again request thinking about changing the rule that submissions must contain code/ be directly related to programming and the sub rules be more inclusive about the content that can be posted here, since the user base seems to appreciate a lot of posts that might not directly relate to programming.
@atko specifically referenced the way r/technology on reddit banned Tesla posts, just because the mod was tired of seeing Tesla content dominate the sub.
Once again, I appreciate the discussion and transparency that you've had.
