How to run a local version of Voat?

Hello, I have a question regarding localhost voat installation. I want it for my personal purposes CSS Styles & Theme development, but I am really a noob when it comes to web applications. What do I need in order to get this running? I can't get past step 2 in the installation guide.

What I did was:

  • Download from here https://github.com/voat/voat
  • Install SQL server that part is alright
  • What next? I have the source code on my desktop, but how do I make it run on my localhost, preferably using XAMPP (I suck at configuration)? DO i need to compile it or anything in Visual Studio ? I don't really get it how to deploy it, I am only used to configure simple php/mysql websites. Anyone care to elaborate please? There is a .sln file to open in Visual Studio... but does it need to be used prior to deploying? Thanks, please note that I am a total web app n00b. Thanks for any help

I've briefly looked through the files, it's not going to be easy. No offence, but if you are a self proclaimed "total web app n00b", this might not be the best project for you.

That being said, I think you're supposed to move Web.config to ~/Voat/Voat.Business and then insert your credentials into the file.
