Oh bullshit!

These kids aren't even taught to read anymore. They are functionally illiterate and devoid of any math skills.

This is just a way to launder $4B, through teachers unions, back to politics.

Here is your first CS lesson, it covers OR , and AND.

How do you teach kids CS when you can't teach them reading OR math? You need math AND reading for CS.

I do hope that some folks who can use it do get the opportunity to do so, but let's face that cold hard truth - most do not have the mental fortitude for such an education.

Sad, but c'est la vie.

Cool that Obama can just spend without that pesky congress's permission.

But I wonder why doesn't he just announce a new house for everyone and million dollar scholarships for whatever anyone wants to study.

Cool story Barry. Where are you getting the money for that?

I can say this money will go to Detroit and Atlanta for dumb-ass kids and the majority of the money will go down the drain. It will be obsolete in a few years of corruption and democrat leadership.

King Obama is doing a lot these days.

Personally, I think that the money will be well spent, IF the President and the Congress dismantle the H-1B program. Many people with excellent skills are out of work in this country, and employers cry and howl about "not being able to find suitable employees," but what they really mean is, "we have to pay US citizens too much, and we want to hire foreign workers so we can pay them less." This is an open wound on the entire tech and professional sector, from doctors that were trained in other countries and then emigrated here, to tech folks of all kinds who come here because it's "the land of opportunity"--meaning, "we get paid better in the US." I'm all for more money spent on tech and professional programs, but the sad thing is that all that money means nothing if the job field isn't open because of political decisions made based on lobbyists' efforts to game the legislation. Rant over...

It was a "pledge" and is not guaranteed until congress votes on it. All it amounts to is Obama asking Congress to include the funds in a spending bill.
