Holy shit, I actually was "triggered". Why on earth is github going this way and hiring people who belive that a programmer should not program if he speaks outside of his program code? People like those really need to be destroyed brfore they breed.
WTF? What...is..that? It's a man who thinks he's a woman fighting for HIS rights as a man pretending to be a woman. WTF!!! Thhere's a glitch in The Matrix. Someone please unplug me from The Matrix.
She's not feminist though. Doesn't matter whether you're biologically male or female to me... BUT stating you are a "feminist" when you only want to sue, harass, and divide people with bullshit is the complete opposite of feminism. This witch is a feminazi, an oppressionist and a complete nutcase.
The fact she wants "safe spaces" for open source software -- is what i find "WTF". If there was only safe spaces, we wouldn't have GNU, we wouldn't have BSD, and we sure as hell would not have Linux.
She should fuck off back to blogging about how someone rape stared her when a passer-by asked for the time.
I wonder why people still don't self host their git repos. Git was designed for it, it's trivial and efficient - but people still keep using terrible services, which are a centralised point of failure (against main git purposes) and try to enforce their bullshit "principles" (against Free Software development model/ideals).
Because it's easier having a central repository for the team to access as there's still no stable Gittorrent to decentralize the repositories themselves.
People do. But users want the project on github, where they already have a login.
Also many people have no clue about managing remote repos from the commandline. They are actually using the github web interface to do merges and pulling that locally. So github also atrophies the necessary skills.
I host my private repos myself, but for open-source stuff Github adds a lot of value. People want to be able to find your project, submit issues & pull requests, and have one account that they can use for any project.
Maybe a self-hosted GitLab can offer some of this too, I haven't looked into it much yet.
because github deals with backups and uptime. It isn't just about access to a workable git. There's also the social issues of everyone and their mother is on github. Well, maybe not their mother :)
But, honestly, yeah, I get why people are sticking to it... it's easier. But, to be honest, I think that programmers should always expand their experience and skills, keep digging deeper and deeper. Right now they're relying on github UI, without being even aware that you can do it all faster if you know underlying tools.
A white male that undergoes surgery to remove their genitalia and ingests artificial hormones in an attempt to physically resemble a woman who then goes on a nonstop tirade ranting against whites and males. No, no self loathing or mental disorder here at all - just gender dysphoria.
I also don't understand why companies hire folks like this. In spite of what you'd believe from reading Twitter and social media in general, there are completely normal and rational trans folks. This person by contrast literally thinks there is a secret world power organizing against her. This is not a stable person. In any case if you're truly after diversity would you not prefer individuals who are not actively sexist and racist? People like this are going to create one nasty work environment.
The very same thing that happened to Reddit. Censorship because you offended someone else's feelings and they clicked the report link on you to fill out a form why your post was harassment to them.
I guess I don't mind the crap on reddit too much, since I tend not to subscribe to subs with overzealous mods (except for askhistorians). I annoy folks plenty on reddit without getting slapped around by moderators.
Straight white males get blacklisted and the quality of open source projects drops, and projects take longer to complete due to in-fighting over inane, irrelevant bullshit. Meanwhile, MS, Apple, and Intel (more H-1bs, please) are laughing all the way to the bank.
The threat towards game devs is real as evidenced by their reluctance to speak out over the Gamergate controversy; anyone white/male/straight (pick any combination) not toeing the line risks having their career destroyed. Some have lost their jobs for being associated with the "wrong" side, even a black male.
Edit: OK, finally figured out I couldn't reply because I was trying to post a link to a banned domain. FWIW, the error message "You are doing that too fast. Please wait 30 seconds before trying again" does not convey the actual error.

Good point. People have a right to their own perspectives on issues, and merely stating what it is should not be grounds for condemnation. I guess I'm just not sure how we know this will happen at github because of some unspecified "anti-harassment tools". What is an anti-harassment tool, in this context?
Hmm, I after reading the code of conduct, I see what you mean in that there are a few definitions of harassment that seem no worse than being rude, and may seem a bit too specific. It'll be interesting to see if they get a bit overzealous, and if there would be repercussions because of it: it seems like a possibility, but this could also just be an empty PR show, and they may keep a light touch.
but this could also just be an empty PR show, and they may keep a light touch.
That's not the SJW way. Just look at Twitter immediately after they announced the new Trust and Safety Council: Criticize a Feminist? Banned! Conservative white male? Banned! This will happen in some shape or form at Github.
Ger'off mah gerthubb yeeer cis-gender whitey honkey tooney black hater.
Seriously though, it must be some kind of conspiracy to lower quality and passion within open source development. They just want to watch the world burn. I'm 100% against racism of any kind, including white vs black AND black vs white -- i find it primitive and stupid. But when these feminazi cunts are screaming that only white people can be deemed racists in their "conducts" -- why bother? They are turning libre/free/open source into a totalitarian power trip to massage their egos for attention seeking.
'Cause github has gone down the tubes, and is slowly drifting through the cesspit of feminazi safe spaces -- brought to you by lunatics and inversion by destroying a true cause for equality, and masquerading as an attention seeking lynch mob of antihumanist cunts!
Just let reality flow. Either it'll collapse on itself due to be a hate-filled community on a major race/gender or it won't. I'm betting on the former. It'll be hard to keep that community going when you're feeling attacked or too afraid to publish code. At which point it won't matter anymore, they'll collapse. Or they won't and it'll make waves in other communities. It really is that simple.
No need to get worked up about it. In about 2 or so years we'll know where the rubber meets the road. If they want everyone to play with a helmet, knee pads, and foam swords -- let them.
Github is not the only point of open source... the whole point of that persons post is that github is removing themselves from that role with their extreme sjw politics
Just removed all my repos and permanently deleted my github account. I wont be going back and I wont work for anymore companies that force the use of github from now on. Highly disappointed in this move.
Can't imagine many of them will stay for very long, pretty soon we'll start seeing demands from GitHubs identity politics ideologues to force the adoption of the same "anti harassment" rules and guidelines directly into a projects decision making as well as every community space of a project e.g. if you don't force the adoption of GitHub approved anti harassment rules on your community forums. website, etc or you don't have a mandatory quota of multi racial / gender contributors your project will be removed from GitHub.
I'll give it 3-4 months before the first large project starts migrating away, maybe another 2-3 before things stabilize from the inevitable SJW backlash (DDOS attacks, attempted domain seizures, hit pieces attacking GitHub competitors and projects that move etc).
They are likely to go after NPM etc to make it difficult for projects to have the freedom to define their own standards and practices if they want to be distributed and used. Then we'd have to create and fund a whole new repository infrastructure if we want to continue making software that's all about the code rather than our identities and the privilege hierarchy.
It's hard to believe there are this many "smart people" who are capable of coding that don't realize that they are the target of a massive campaign to turn them against each other. Open-source software is a threat to American military-industrial complex trademarked brand "freedom" - you are being played if you're fighting each other.

Dunno about the thumbnail above but I sure as hell wouldn't feel safe hosting a project on github any more.

I agree, it really isn't hard to set up and manage a repository. I use my pi to run one for a few friends and my hobby projects.
1 u/koduu 25 Feb 2016 15:29
Would you post/point to a guide on how exactly to do this? I have a spare Pi laying around but no skills on servers.

This one is pretty straight forward, you'll also need to get a host that you can find online for free.

Creating tools to report "harassment" or "micro-agressions" against "minorities"?
Providing tools to remove (blacklist?) white/straight/male contributors over whatever a "minority" deems harassment?
Penalizing projects that do not conform to the new Code of Conduct?
