Random question, but I'm curious. Why does imgur links work slightly less well than i.imgur links?

This guy's link opens in imgur too, but quicker and without comments.

Because the i.imgur links open just the image, and the others open the full page. The full page has ads, javascript, and other images that have to load, instead of just the image.
