Private prisons isn't a term that gets tossed around constantly on this website? Shall I search the term in the bar at the top and show some examples mr instant downvote?

This myth of private prisons in the US gets touted around reddit like wild fire. There are 8% of the entire US prison population in private prisons. The rest are government run units. So please explain to me what needs to be done?
