Comment on: Firefox lost 50M users since 2019
They are not losing users just because Mozilla is run by woke idiots. In order to use Firefox people need to make a conscious decision to install it because it doesn't come pre-installed on any device. All Android phones come with Chrome pre-installed. All Windows machines come with Edge pre-installed. All OSX machines come with Safari pre-installed. Most people never change any settings or make decision to use a different program when there is one that already does the same job. They just use the device in its default configuration. Mozilla doesn't sell any hardware devices where Firefox could be set as a default browser. There were some tablets with FF OS but Mozilla killed the project long time ago.

Comment on: Windows 11 Home requires Microsoft account and net connection to use.
I believe the current EULA of Windows 10 says if you login to your computer with online account they have the right to go through your files on HDD. So it does not matter if the account you are using is real or with fake name because they will be able to view all your shit. Windows 11 EULA will be similar but worse I imagine.

There is a website that did detailed comparison of VPN providers and Mullvad looked like the best option for me.

>Second, everything works without having to fuck with it. No drivers, no reboots, no bullshit. You plug things in and they work without any extra shit. Yeah you plug in the "wrong" dongle and the fucking thing dies. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252244260 You bring it to apple store and they tell you to go fuck yourself. https://www.reddit.com/r/macbook/comments/k359t1/new_macbook_air_m1_died_seems_bricked/ Yeah this is totally professional equipment for professional idiots like you. The ARM chip is faster in single-core tests only. In multi-core workloads the Ryzen still wins. https://www.laptopmedia.com/comparisons/preliminary-amd-ryzen-9-5900h-vs-apple-m1-the-m1-wins-in-single-core-by-11-but-the-ryzen-9-is-25-better-in-multi-core/ Mac users are the most technically incompetent demographic of people and you have proved this with your comment.

UX does not matter. The only reason why some developers use macs is because Apple has a closed ecosystem that requires it. All developers I have met use Linux or Windows. In the company I worked for there was one iMac that was rarely used for the very reason I explained. Windows laptops are always more cost effective than Macs, everybody knows this. I just checked apple's website and compared one of their i7 macbooks to Asus ROG Strix G15 with same specs. The only difference is that Asus has more powerful GPU. And yet it costs £300 less.

Macs are PCs too. Non-apple computers can at least be fixed when something breaks but Apple will either charge you astronomical amount or tell you go fuck yourself and buy a new one.

Ahhh.... yes Blender. You forgot to say that Blender has development fund that is backed by some of the biggest companies in the world. Like Amazon, Intel, Facebook. I don't know how the fund works but I believe the big corps give them large chunks of money and Blender devs implement desired features for them. https://fund.blender.org/ Right now the fund gets 1.6 million Euros per year. That's not a trivial amount.

I used to work in tech support for 3 years. I'm sure the big businesses use Linux to run their infrastructure but the small-medium sized businesses run Windows server 95% of the time. They need Active Directory to control domain accounts. They need a Windows VM for Sage which is a popular accounting program. They need a VM for Veeam Backup & Replication to backup all the files and virtual servers. Many of them still have Exchange servers which run on windows. Although this has mostly moved to Office365 so it's becoming less and less relevant. Software for many 3D printers works only on Windows and Mac. There are probably thousand more examples that I am not aware of. Linux VMs are usually used for web servers that run Apache and NgineX. Video games are only for consuming. You can't use them as a means of creating new content.

GIMP is not professional alternative because it doesn't make any money. The same goes for FreeCAD and AutoCAD. People who want to just experiment and create something for fun use GIMP and FreeCAD. Professionals who are paid by companies use Phtoshop and AutoCAD. >Also, most of the alternatives are free Yes, that's why will always be inferior in feature set.

>Apple will be doing both Apple Silicon and Intel support for a long time. Like a decade. And who told you that? I don't remember Apple supporting PowerPC architecture for 10 years after they switched to Intel. >Windows can be run on ARM, so ARM processors for desktops might become more popular in the next 10 years. That doesn't change anything in regards to my original topic. It may be better for competition since x86 licence is held by only 2 companies but OSX will only run on Apple's ARM chip. Don't worry they will figure it out.

First you say it's not true and then you slowly admit it is true. No point in lying to yourself. GIMP and Inkscape will not catch-up to their proprietary counterparts because they don't make any money. Firefox can compete with Chrome because Mozilla makes somewhere between $400 to $500 million dollars per year. For that amount of money you can hire many good developers. Adobe Inc. made $11.17 billion in 2019 and has over 22 600 employees. Now I don't know how much money the GIMP project gets in donations but I can guarantee you it's not even a fraction of what Adobe makes. People need to eat and pay bills. Most of people don't want to work for free. All these programs that are developed by volunteers can never compete with something that has paid full time developers behind it.

Comment on: Endangered Firefox: The state of Mozilla
I think it's mainly due to mobile phones and tablets. Specifically Androids. Google controls the development of Android and dictates that all devices with Android must ship with chrome pre-installed. So people just use whatever is there. Just like Safari is pre-installed on every apple device. Mozilla doesn't have any devices hence it doesn't come pre-installed on any of them. Lot of google owned websites are also designed to serve slower version of javascript when you visit them with firefox.

It's definitely harder with services/products where there isn't a proper alternative but not impossible. Changing search engine to DuckDuckGo, your browser to Firefox and moving your stuff from Dropbox to MEGA or pCloud is super easy.
