News - generally don't like anything that makes a certain race of people look bad. So they actually review articles and limit the number of posts where the suspect is from a certain race. The second example - They are saying since the victim wasn't and not a US citizen, he's not "Asian-American". But if you look at what the mods of that subreddit are posting, they are writing about "racism" in Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan, which has even less to do with Americans.

If you go to the news subreddit now, you'll see that one of the top stories is about a woman who was stabbed for being Asian. But the suspect in that case isn't black, and the victim is a woman, so it's allowed to be boosted to the top.
