Comment on: Discord acquires AI censorship company
Sadly that's how big companies win Most of the public don't care about the so called "privacy" and prefer to use what they're already using. I tried to get a Matrix going, we had a few members but the server has fallen off into deadness, with Discord still being the main go to.

Comment on: Rabbit on Twitter: "The fact that NordVPN is using DMCA takedowns against Twitter accounts that criticize their security is significant evidence that you should avoid NordVPN."
I've heard good things about Mullvad I think is what it's called? My other go to, less good VPNs are Windscribe and ProtonVPN ProtonVPN cause it's run by the guys who made ProtonMail so I trust em, sorta. Windscribe cause it's cheap, but they are Canadian based so in terms of privacy, who knows.

Comment on: 14 ways to stay private while using an Android device - ProtonMail Blog
Better than nothing, and I don't exactly fully agree with the article For example it says allowing from unknown sources is unsafe. But that's literally how you get stuff like F-Droid

Comment on: Microsoft to buy Discord for about $10 Billion
In a more optimistic view, these are what I expect MS to do it they do end up buying discord. Since there's already Nitro + Game Pass promos, they might bundle those 2 together Maybe some kind of Discord VC for Xbox, would be pretty cool? Microsoft Account requirement will probably come in the future (see Minecraft) And of course they'll move it off Google Cloud onto Azure (see Minecraft Realms AWS to Azure) Or they could end up making it free (see github private repos) and taking the route of selling your data or a long term investment of sorts?

Eh, Nitro is already monetization. I'm expecting some kind of deal with game pass tbh

I've tried Guilded before, it's still pretty early in dev, a lot of stuff isn't on the mobile app it in general does feel slow I do hope it becomes larger but it'll take time

Comment on: My network connection says I've used [2000 bazillion] GB of data this month; when I view by app it says 4GB of that was torrenting (yup, that'd be roughly correct) and then.....the rest was "OpenVPN" (I have basic ProtonVPN)...so since it doesn't seem likely shitposting on Ruqqus, checking email and five minutes of Youtube daily could possibly add up to that...wtf?
Windows? Could be Delivery Optimization Aka turning your PC into a P2P node for windows updates.

Comment on: Facebook is buying ads for its Messenger app to display when users search for "Signal"
Honestly, if someone is already making the switch to Signal, they probably already know Facebook's reputation How is shoving one last ad in your face going to make you download Messenger, unless they hope you download the wrong thing by accident

Comment on: Xiaomi has Launched The Redmi 9T Globally
If you import the Chinese version there's technically no google But that's a terrible solution to the problem Since xiaomi's android skin, MIUI, does quite the tracking Luckily you can just unlock the bootloader and flash a Custom Rom such as Lineage os Just give it some time for Roms to come (note, if the device uses a Mediatek SoC, then reconsider your choices as Roms are usually not as good for them)
