Comment on: How do self-taught developers actually get jobs?

No, not the actual replacing of code, that is basic stuff. What is brilliant is the way that thread suspension is taking place because current AV apps basically ignore this behavior. This will essentially make security bandits have to re-think how they do on the spot detection.

Holy crap this is brilliant.
Comment on: How many of you can still read your own code you created years ago?
I recently rewrote an old program of mine which was originally about 10k lines of code and is now about 600. Rewriting it took away some of the shame.

I just want to know why Microsoft can't make their search as fast as Everything. Seriously that is another freaking awesome program that every Windows user needs.

Macro keys on my gaming keyboard that I use for work have been amazing. I seriously believe that every keyboard should have this feature.

Yep, Launchy is great. I have used it on and off for a couple of years.

That sounds freaking miserable! Take it a step further and just kill all that crap that is running. It will probably piss off the IT guy but screw him. He sucks at his job.

What do you use to unlock your machine by proximity? This would be an awesome one to implement.

I will be watching for it on Kickstarter.

The button clicks is something I think about often. I send a lot of emails that have the same process over and over with changing the FROM line, changing the Signature, then adding DRM to it, after the 50 millionth time it just gets to be too much. This is next on my list.

I am not entirely sure if I believe this story but it is brilliant either way.

COBOL is just about a dead language now. Those guys must make a fortune since they would have to come out of retirement to do a little coding.

I can't speak for most developers since my primary job is not development but generally if the hiring manager is pretty good they will look behind a college degree. Generally they want to see examples and do live interviews watching you code a basic app based on their requirements. If you can do that then you are pretty much down to whether or not you interview well.
This is surprisingly accurate. As both a self-taught musician and developer, you have to work a lot harder but your skills are more diverse and you tend to enjoy coding more.
