It's a good article.
Without Section 230, the Internet basically couldn't exist. If anyone who deleted spam was also accountable for anything their users said, we'd go back to the Internet of 1995, where every website was just a brochure with no comments section.

I haven't investigated the back end of the sites, but also: yes, obviously.
From what I understand it's all just based on a schism. Two hundred racists disagreed on how racist they should be, so forty of them took their ball and set up a completely separate site.
