I imagine it would conduct the safest option it can, something like pulling over and stopping. India needs to figure out driving before it tries to figure out how a computer can do it haha.
I think poor roads are a tough one, but ultimately machines are likely to be better drivers than us in these areas because they can gather, process and act on a lot more information a lot more objectively. A computer doesn't go "fuck it" like we do.
I think what will happen is that urban and high traffic areas will be automated. So you manually drive your car to the motorway and transfer control a bit like how airplanes are used today. That would be nice as then we can have machines driving us at 200kph very safely, but still drive ourselves around outside of cities or very high speed areas.
