I did this and then I did a java textbook... Then I was getting jobs doing Java.
Code academy is garbage but it's a good way to get your feet wet to say the least. I personally prefer the book route grab a few beginner books about a language crush those. Know the basics and then try to build something with the newly acquired knowledge.
