I have a 4th gen i5 and Firefox still runs like ass. I know that's a pretty old CPU, but the fact that it can still handle modern AAA games but can't run fucking Firefox tells me it's not my hardware at fault here.

It was until the current UI update. Now it runs like crap. Why didn't they keep the Quantum UI? It ran great!

Exactly. If conservatives will buy it anyway but lefties will screech and boycott, who the fuck do people think these companies will cater to first?

Critical mass. Everyone's friends are on Facebook and a lot of business and marketing is done there. Most people are gonna address their immediate livelyhood over the gradual and more difficult to perceive loss of freedom. For many people, not using Facebook is a disadvantage they can't afford.

Comment on: President Donald Trump has joined YouTube competitor Rumble
I don't trust Trump either. If he was truely anti-establishment, he would have pardoned Julian Assanage and Edward Snowden.
That said, Trump is a celebrity. Love him or hate him, he gets traffic, something an alt platform needs to compete.

Comment on: President Donald Trump has joined YouTube competitor Rumble
He who wins the normies wins the internet. Most normies don't even know what the fuck torrenting is or that ad blockers exist.
The only way a decentralized platform even has a chance is
1.) A borderline retard can use it.
2.) It has really good marketing to make it seem cool and trendy.
3.) It has some big name apolitical people to help it avoid becoming another right-wing political echo chamber.

I used to have a Roku and Youtube was slow as fuck. Glad I have an Android Box now, though I can't find a custom ROM with most of the spooky shit removed and installing ARM Linux is a bitch.

Best part is it has a free teir that's actually good. You mainly just need to pay for torrenting and better speeds.

Why not? More competition is a good thing in a capitalist society, and the more prominent alt services there are, the more likely someone might like one of them and move over to it.

I think we can have different platforms for different things. The problem is people expect 100% free speech, no idiots and zero toxicity and that just isn't gonna happen.
A platform should make it clear what it's goal is and stick to it. Is it a 100% free speech platform? A relaxed hangout that "hate speech" would disrupt? What is the target age range?

Comment on: ‘Protecting Biden from further embarrassment’: YouTube to hide ‘dislikes’ on videos as users ruthlessly downvote president
Why are you being downvoted? You have a point. Hiding the dislikes raises even more suspicion, especially sinces he's under the microscope of right wing media similar to how Trump was hounded by left wing media.

Maybe Youtube is pushing it BECAUSE your engaging with it. Youtube just wants your eyes on the platform, even if it's out of spite. That's why I mostly use frontends like Invidious instances and Skytube.

Matrix is a decentralized network. Element is the most popular chat app to use with it. It works a lot like the fediverse in that you can host your own stuff and connect it to everyone elses.

They're following the money. They've already proven that virtue signaling and predatory monetization = money. They practically allow gambling already with lootbox ridden games.
