There's short-term and long-term benefit. The short-term view, which many in the US have is inflation is bad, my grocery prices went up, and we need to fix this. The long-term view, is that Putin has made it clear he wants to invade Europe. He wants to expand his empire and is willing to sacrifice millions of Russians to get it. Ukraine is the first line of defense. After Ukraine come the Baltics, Poland, and general Europe. If the Western nations don't hold the line now there will be a full ww3. Then all hell will break out, drafts amongst other things, and people will be really pissed. Now it's clear why earlier Trump wants out of NATO, and the general maneuvering happening with totalitarian governments. I'm not sure what Putin did/has on these people but it's remarkable to see them all goose step in line.
