Comment on: Whats the best language for this?
I'm not "anti-amazon", but they do certainly enable some shitty publishing practices.
Comment on: Whats the best language for this?
One thing I find to make a language "best" is the guidance available for learning to do something new.
Did you know there is a book One-Time Pad Programming in C++ for Secret Communications?
Don't feed amazon. PM me if you're interested.
Comment on: MenuetOS, an operating system written entirely in assembly, hits 1.0
Assembly is a programming language that interacts directly with the hardware
Don't forget about assembly into machine code.

Assembly's super hard, yo.
Comment on: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Emacs - Jessica Hamrick
I'm of the opinion that most people are better off becoming familiar with as many tools as possible so they can make better choices regarding what is best suited for a given task.
I picked up vim my first year of grad school and still use it regularly when I need to make a minor edit to a file but can't get away with just doing a quick Perl substitution.
That doesn't mean you should learn anything in particular, but it certainly doesn't take decades and it never hurts to have more options.

Interesting read. I have to admit, I had no idea Linus created Git.

The "blank is the new blank" snowclone is generally a huge red flag for inane content.
Amazon Digital Services electronically publishes a lot of low quality content for third parties, a fair amount of it automatically generated, and a lot of it deceptively advertized.
The book I linked to on the OTP is not low-quality, but it's also not really a book as the average consumer would think of one. The "look inside" reads like the intro to any other programing tutorial book: "Here's what we'll be doing in this book." The book itself has no real additional discussion and is just 8 pages or so of code.
