Captive user base and existing data, I'd imagine. Basically people like me who used Discord gave it it's valuation. I disgust me.

To tinker it's 100% worth your money. I have an Raspberry Pi the PinePhone has a built in screen and LTE so it can be super portable or you can hook up a USB-C dock and use like a desktop computer. Very cool.

Comment on: Microsoft reportedly developing its own ARM-based processors for Surface PCs
Same here. The only mac I've ever owned is a 2012 mini I bought as a build system for iOS off if eBay for $200. I hate Apple and their philosophy and their ecosystem control, yet I find myself wishing I had an M1 mac to play with. I think optimised ARM chips on platforms is going to revolutionize the portable pc market and maybe even shake up the desktop as well--so long as it doesn't fracture it with implementation specifics that differ from vendor to vendor significantly

If anyone needs trust busting it's Amazon. They're the ones putting the entirety of main streets across the country out of business. The only company that has had the ability to even try to keep up is Walmart. And that's just in the retail space. Amazons services drive most of (or a massive chunk at least) the server infrastructure. They continue to acquire competition and even companies to put Amazon into new lines of business.
Sure Facebook and Google are bad but I don't think either have a more negative impact on economic diversity as Amazon.

I'm not thrilled about the price increase. Hopefully the non-X variants are closer to their counterparts from last gen. I've always been an AMD fan, and not because they were the underdog but because the $/performance at the price points they were positioned. I'm being unreasonable I know and AMD deserves the premium, I just hope they don't stray too far from what made me a fan in the first place.

As someone who's been an AMD fan starting with the K6 and even through all the dark times shortly after, it's really exciting to see my team winning. I'm not anti-Intel, nor do I think AMD is somehow more worthy. I just appreciate their cost/performance ratio which even in the shit days was unmatched.

Comment on: Nintendo 3DS discontinued after almost a decade - BBC News
You know, I was prepared to type out a bunch of reasons why I don't think Nintendo would enter the smartphone market, but honestly, I don't think anyone knows the direction this company will go from one day to the next. We'll see. I just wish there were more options in the handheld console market than just the Switch now -- but I think smartphone "gaming" and streaming services like Xcloud will probably dominate that arena.

NVIDIA is no Intel. NVIDIA has been petal to the metal for over a decade. Unless there's some kind of miracle, I strongly doubt AMD will be competitive in the AI GPU market.
And I say this as an admitted AMD fanboy.

NVIDIA is extremely unfriendly to open-source software. This isn't good for the future of open-source AI, and it concerns me about the future of licensing for projects like Raspberry Pi. I just hope NVIDIA is after royalty-free use of ARM hardware and not consuming it.

I told my friend the exact same thing. Someone else can make a control panel. And, of course, you can always Run `appwiz.cpl`. I doubt it will go away even after the control panel does for enterprise compatibility.
Also, Is touch still a thing people want? I thought that retarded trend was over unless you were an artist or something, which can't be a huge userbase.

Agreed. I run MX Linux on everything I own but my home and office workstations are Windows because our primary business application is Windows-only (and doesn't work properly in WINE)
They do the same things on Windows Pro on a domain. You have some control, but they've locked alot of the ability to disable cloud features for all but enterprise versions, but there are still workarounds. The whole thing is a goddamned mess.

Nah the settings app is awful. It requires more clicks to get where you're going (in most cases) and for things like network hardware properties it literally directs you right back to the Control Panel lol.
