Isn’t this part of the problem? The most dedicated users are paid shills/people with financial incentive to act a certain way, and usually this aligns with far-left incentives

Comment on: Substack doubles down on uncensored ‘free speech’ with acquisition of Letter
The more you read of this article, the steeper the leftist slant gets
It almost makes me want to start paying for substack subscriptions

Comment on: Mastodon now has an official iPhone app - The Verge
How could that be? Didn’t they have other apps removed from the App Store for not blocking certain instances?
I like the mobile site of pleroma so I probably won’t switch, but that’s cool if there isn’t a filter

Looks nice although I can't imagine it'll work with any fun instances (like shitposter.club or poa.st)

Comment on: Zuckerberg says Facebook will turn into a "metaverse" - software will be everywhere
Honestly this sounds like he’s going to try to enter the phone space eventually, and I think it’s good to have more competition.
I mean it’s unfortunate that it’s all the people ideologically speaking, but as these companies get older they’ll hopefully replace the long-standing executives with money managers who don’t care as much about politics

Comment on: FCC is asked to restore net neutrality rules
Honestly I’m kind of on the fence about net neutrality; as the market of internet providers gets more competitive, this will only limit a portion of what they can provide. And the reality is Democrats are doing this because big tech has bought them out, so it’s not hard to imagine a future where they make exceptions for conservative sites or services (like VPN’s)

Comment on: It’s now illegal in Norway to not label retouched photos on social media - i-D
I think the problem is a lot more complex than that. Lots of cameras have digital filters on by default (also called beauty filters), some you can’t turn off. I’m addition all digital cameras have some form of processing, and sometimes the “beauty filter” is just an aggressive smoothing filter.
This law feels poorly thought out, and as though it aims to solve a problem which doesn’t exist. The dumbest part is the best solution is to label all photos as “potentially retouched” just in case, making this the dumbest change to the internet since the EU required websites to warn you they use cookies

Honestly I really like the app, the only issue I have is it takes a long time to send messages with attachments, but I don’t really do that too often anyways

Ah yes, because it worked so well for Facebook!
I hope they’re successful, although I wouldn’t bet on it

Comment on: 2023 iPhone may house Apple-designed 5G modem, analyst claims
This is cool, but someday Apple is going to make a few major missteps (such as a bad temp CEO or bad products) and all of this is going to come crashing down. Imagine how hard it would be to catch up when all of your products use completely custom hardware if you ever fall behind.
