Comment on: Is it worth spending the time to learn Emacs today?

I code in clojure and found emacs to be amazing. You just have to learn lots of key bindings thats all. However, who really cares, keep trying out IDE's till you find one which enjoy. Right tool right job :)

Comment on: What keeps developers happy?

As a London Based developer who is quite new to developing I might be biased but ..

  • Pay me what is fair, I'm not greedy but I want to feel valued by the company and money is one way.

  • Unified business, I want to work at a place where business and development are on the same side.

  • Free stuff, It sound's silly but if work gave me free breakfast everyday I would be happier, more loyal and more productive.

  • Excellent Peers, I want to work with people who I can learn from and I can teach too. Teaching other people is great fun!

  • Flexible hours, being able to work flexible hours is great for my work / home / family balance.

Comment on: Hey /v/programming - What's your favorite language to program in and why?

My favourite is Clojure! Once you get past all the ( ) then it's quite nice, very fast to get proof of concepts up and running!

Java was my first language, I learnt it at university but had an opportunity to start learning Clojure.

Comment on: Open Source Web Crawlers, any advice?

Yeah my first Proof of concept will work with just one website, so I might be running before I can walk, so to speak. But I would really like to scale up from 1 to a larger number of websites.

What did you end up using Nutch for? I managed to do a test run last night on a news website but the results were a bit hit and miss. Everything apart from the title was in the content tag as one long string.

Do you know if its possible to create a custom parser, so I would be able to parse the raw data (not sure what format it is) ?
