VirtualBox is your friend. Completely eliminates any compatibility problems. Used it when a hardware tool I needed only ran under windows. The did fix that.

I've got a pacemaker and have asked about this. I've been told by my doctors that the only thing I need to avoid is TENs (direct electrical stimulation of muscles). Cell phones are fine and I have one. It lives on my desk within arms reach. I also have a smart watch on my wrist. I also use the microwave without fear.

The noise is going to be the fan. That is the only moving part and is the likeliest source of the noise. There are cool lighted fans available now so he can fix it and have a prettier PC. Currently running Linux Mint on three PCs.
