Comment on: Pakistan issues ‘final warning’ to TikTok and blocks Bigo app over ‘immoral, obscene, and vulgar content’
The world is a varied and amazing place friend, I wouldn't lock myself into such a binary choice.

Comment on: Pakistan issues ‘final warning’ to TikTok and blocks Bigo app over ‘immoral, obscene, and vulgar content’
Immoral in Pakistan is basically a lass dancing fully clothed to music. It's hard to take anything they say seriously.

Comment on: Robinhood, the stock trading app, postpones UK launch ‘indefinitely’
It's not a glitch, that's how settlement times work. I disagree with wording it that way, that guy surely should have known about settlement delays and it's used as an excuse for him certainly having other issues.

Comment on: Robinhood, the stock trading app, postpones UK launch ‘indefinitely’
Can't speak for the UK but I know in Australia it's going to be a tough road for them to get approval. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being the same case. Local regulators are beholden to the big banks who make the most off overpriced brokerage fees, they also hate options trading and make it fairly hard for the average investor to get approval to participate. Shit like wallstbets doesn't help in the slightest and would have their panties in a twist.

Comment on: Who’s Behind Wednesday’s Epic Twitter Hack? - thorough analysis of what happened
Why does Krebs keep doxxing people who haven't even been charged by the police? I love the guy but for fucks sake, stop.

Comment on: “Reddit says it’s fixing code in its iOS app that copied clipboard contents” - WTF?
Reddit web UI is basically unusable on mobile now. There's so many dark patterns constantly demanding you get the app. A better alternative is RedReader which is open source and much faster than their own shitty app. It's on Google Play and F-droid

Comment on: “Reddit says it’s fixing code in its iOS app that copied clipboard contents” - WTF?
This came out about linkedin a few days ago and I bet there's a few dozen prominent companies hoping they can get away with silently removing this nefarious shit on their sites and apps before they get called out too. A lot of sites do this. A lot of apps do this. It's ridiculous and ripe for abuse.

Comment on: 'It's really hard to find maintainers...' Linus Torvalds ponders the future of Linux • The Register
It's a tough thing to commit to. Plenty of people will do it for some recognition while young but once they have what they wanted it's pretty easy to step away and write some emotional blog post about not caring anymore. Not a systemd fan, but the sheer amount of abuse that Poettering cops constantly is a good indication of what you actually will be signing up for, angry autistic nerd rage dumped in your inbox every morning is not to be underestimated. That said I'm sure it can be rewarding work for some. There's people still maintaining linux drivers for fucking obsolete hardware so there's certainly something in it.

Comment on: Subsurface ocean on Jupiter's moon Europa deemed potentially 'habitable'
Going anywhere near Jupiter is hard though, there's enough radiation on the surface of Europa to kill you within a day. All of the inner moons are like this.

Comment on: Zoom Promises To Do Better After Banning Tiananmen Square Protests—Then Builds Tech To Help China’s Censorship
Jitsi and Jitsi Meet are open source alternatives, free and not compromised by a nation state hellbent on corporate espionage against the west. Why the fuck aren't companies using this? https://meet.jit.si/
