I've been using Amazons AWS CodeCommit. A little faff to set up but the cost is very reasonable.

Sublime text is what I use. It isn't exactly free but I love it. Atom is like sublime which is free but I had stability problems with it. I used to use jEdit and gVim before I switched to sublime.
