You cant measure "feelings".

Feelings may be subjective, but brain chemistry is not. Just because something is difficult to measure does not make it immeasurable. There are a handful of "feel good" chemicals in the brain that are released in different frequencies and quantities in response to external stimulus. These quantities are measurable with current brain imaging technology.

Feelings are also measurable in a more socialogical, or psychological way via self reporting on surveys, but since you clearly are seeking objectivity I'll exclude those methodologies from our discussion.

Aside from the topic of happiness another metric that is absent in your short list of acceptable advantages is lifespan. Because humans (like all mammals) nurse their young, the lifespan of nursing parents will likely affect, to some degree, the reproductive success of their offspring. However, in instances where adults are infertile or for whatever reason will not be having/caring for any (more) children, how long they live is easily measured and would probably be important to them.

To circle back to the original topic, I'm not sure what the long term health effects of anal sex are. I would imagine that there would be some negative effects that might reduce a person's life expectancy. If this is the case then an advantage of not engaging in this behavior would be a greater chance of living longer. Note that this doesn't meet the criteria that you gave of leading to more kids and more successful kids and wealth.

By the way, the inclusion of wealth on your list seems strange to me. Why would having more wealth necessarily increase reproductive success (which I assume is what you mean by "more successful kids")? Do trillionaires have more reproductive success than billionaires? And they more than middle class families?

In the context of personal happiness. If I listen to music on my way to work it doesn't accomplish any of these 3 specific goals.

To be advantages, chastity or virginity would have to lead to more kids and more successful kids and wealth...

Regardless, the personal satisfaction I gain from listening to music is advantagous toward my goal of happiness.

Similarly, having a tight asshole for instance, could allow someone to have healthier bowel movements and allowing them to lead a happier life. It has no societal or reproductive advantages, but advantages for that individual.

I see by advantages you mean strictly in regards to reproductive success, i.e. Darwinian advantages. I was speaking to individual advantages which are moot in the Darwinian context.

I see what you're saying, but one could argue they have a tighter pussy, possibly a tighter asshole, and possibly their virginity.

Comment on: What programming language changed your outlook on creating software?

Clojure is my favorite lisp. The macro system taught me a new way to think of a program.
