My thoughts exactly.
Comment on: When all your senior devs leave and you're left with fucking nigger-brained idiots
Valid point. I do tend to forget puts(). However, on a normal computer, the CPU is fast enough, it does not matter. Also, there is function call overhead, and display or file IO overhead for the output string. I've never felt the need to use puts() while optimizing for speed. ... However, I will remember it better now.

Personally, I prefer to excel in a few areas. It is fun. If I was simply after money, I'd've take many different choices in my life.

Excellent idea. It would be great if, say, we had access to Verilog/VHDL inside a Symbolics. Around 2009, I loaded what was supposed to be Symbolics Genera (the Symbolics operating system) into VMware, and found it very disappointing. I had about a year worth of experience on Symbolics machines in the late 1980s and they were amazing. For some things I did, I don't think anything today is anywhere near as useful. At one point, before 1990, I was on the phone with someone who was selling a used Symbolics, but I did not buy it for personal use.

There is validity behind what you are saying, but there are many exceptions.
Your knowledge of writing an email and your boss to understand the email is obsolete in 3 years.
The gmail interface that I use has been changing very little. As long as I don't need to change languages, your comments seem pure exaggeration.
As far as coding more generally, it depends upon what you learn and what your do. COBOL & FORTRAN are not sexy, but they have changed very little for decades. If you have a background in physics, engineering, and/or math, that knowledge will be unchanging and still useful for coding. C++ is relatively stable.
Unlearning per se may not be necessary, but certainly the ability to adapt to new paradigms is always a good idea. I do understand the comment about unlearning.
Most of the developers that enter the developers field will become burger flippers in a few years from now.
Obvious hyperbole, Beside, a few yrs from now, the burger flippers will be robots. :-)

OK. My main thrust was the number of people that "happen to be able to code" is far less than "everyone".
Comment on: Not Everyone Should Code
You folks underestimate the stupidity of many. Voat is not the place to chant brainless, equality-dogma, mantras such as "Everyone can [fill in the blank]". Get out of your ivory tower. Many are too idiotic to pull there pants up when they walk down the street. @Mylon @roznak
Many should not be allowed to program. Ever been to a website that would not accept spaces in a credit card number? Those idiots should never be allowed to program again.

Comment on: make -j # Of cores Applicability?
It would be more logical on multi-core machines to default to parallel; I guess they want to honor a legacy. I don't think there is a nice way to change the default behavior.
Comment on: I could really use some C++ help.
Can you get an extension? As a heads up: pogramming courses are generally very time consuming, at least they were when I was in school. You get faster with time, but being at the start of the learning curve is not fun. I don't have the time to do more today. Good luck.
LOL!!! Even here in "programming" on voat!!!!
