I suspect that questions like that one might be more productively redirected to an android-specific subverse than excluded along the axis of skill level.

Another good place to look is at local hackerspaces, if there are any in the author's area. These tend to focus more on hardware than pure software projects, but you'll find people knowledgable in both those areas and more. The few hackerspaces I've visited have been wonderfully collaborative and friendly.
