Comment on: Programmers are having a huge discussion about the unethical and illegal things theyve been asked to do

I didn't get that. Seemed to me a call to programmers based on the fact that programmers are fundamentally different from the often sociopathic business leaders.

Many groups have this "the world depends on us" attitude.

Comment on: Will being a programmer become a near minimum wage occupation?

You can ensure you can still have work 10 years from now if you combine your programming knowledge with another related field. For example digital forensics, ediscovery are big money areas with low competition, currently. At least you aren't really seeing a lot of competition out of SE Asia in these fields.

Last week I wrote my first ever script. Basically a header and footer grabber in bash using xxd and sed. Felt good, I still suck ass at coding but gonna work on it more when I have the time. Was for use with scalpel. Oh, I learned bash and regex ftw.

Comment on: What are some must read programming books for a new programmer?

Learning Perl, or, if you aren't entirely new, Programming Perl.
