Just went and typed this shit up in java, and yea you are correct, since we defined one, now we dont have the default so it wont compile.

self learned c++ here, learning those things you've mentioned actually helps me understand the c++ code and know whats going on under the hood is half the battle of building things from scratch.

Comment on: Some day we won't even need coders anymore

too bad that you dont have to learn any new code and once you know how to program, you can program in any language as its the same shit in different order.

Only for the bad ones. Everyone can code, easy, but there's a select few that like it, excel at it, and dream of better.

Comment on: Programming tip: Stay away from throwing exceptions.

my instructor a year ago said as much. She didn't like using exceptions and preferred to use data validation, maybe even reg expressions. I forgot now. Though for some things it's required to throw exceptions.

Comment on: Java: Object-oriented Programming Language

Widely used is a huggee argument against it "dying" when it regularly sports a spot among the top 5 languages used in the world. Right now Java boats the #1 spot http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html with C# eeking out a win for the 4th place. Again, do let me know why you think C# is somehow better. Not only is the Syntax pretty damn close, that I'm having no trouble using C# after being a Java-lover for a while.

So right off the bat I'm suspicious of you even being a real programmer. You should've spotted that perk early on. Or maybe you've never used java.

Why would customers use Java hmmm... Write ONCE run anywhere. Speed over C#. And the availability of Java-cucks is huge so the development is cheaper.

Not only is the framework rock solid, and while yes, I'll admit it is a little dated and could use some sprucing up the rock solidness is a huggeee perk and huge issue with java. It's a mixed bag.

you'd put as much intricacy and documentation if lives depend on it. Shit, if the programming would've failed they would've had your head on a pike.

Comment on: I am having a hard time finding examples....

some of the highest quality programming books in my opinion are the ones by deitel and deitel, unfortunately they are expensive as fuck at $140, and as a result I buy the international versions for $20 - $40. I don't own any deitel US versions cause they are way too expensive. Oreily books are also good too. Cheap and good. I own two. I have Java, C++, and C# from deitel, and I have emacs, Erlang, intro to erlang from Oreilly. These books have high quality examples, and I'll admit it, im a noob, I can do basic Java CSS HTML C++ and C#, and im just starting into the meaty advanced parts.

Comment on: I Want to Start Programming. Where Should I Start?

I'm not sure what you can do with the macbook pro, but a good book that helped me get the basics down was a book called "Introduction to promgramming with C++: diane zak" very low level book for absolute newbies. Then I bought a foreign copy of java by deitel and deitel(warning this book is expensive in the US, get a foreign copy, and be prepared for boredom cause the book is hella DRY) and once you can do everything in both books you'll be pretty far into programming. Next comes picking up a college algebra book and learning the math, can't program anything exciting if you don't know math. math is like the butter and code is the bread of bread and butter.

Comment on: Starting off in C++

C++ primer is a good book but only if you have gone through a newbie C++ book first. I went through a book my someone with last name zak that turned out to be horrible. I'm going through the primer book now and it's hands down the best C++ book for anyone who is a level higher than newbie. You will learn a TON with 1k pages of densely packed knowledge. This book takes you to the next level. A bit dry and no fun for my tastes. I own the print version and the thing is huge and it's thick as hell with thin pages. Weighty.

Comment on: Programmer at 35 years of age ask Quora why he still sucks at after 10 years.

I'm trying to learn Erlang, and it's very hard as I'm a total noob and every day I feel like I'm way in over my head. There is just SO MUCH. Then the learning resources are just books and websites, no fancy videos like for C++, and you gotta do all of it yourself. It's a vertical climb all the way up. I can't even do the most of the exercises in my book because the book was written for experienced programmers wanting to give erlang a whack, not noobs.

The reddit community is very small, but do provide some help. Not noob friendly at all.
