I read an article about 2 months back and it mentioned the rendering engine is different. I tried atom in the early beta and then right before I went to sublime. The article also mentioned close to metal differences and VSC came out just above sublime and way better than atom. Maybe that changed but I need stability and don't have the time to dick around with continual beta software from Google.
But in general, yeah, I'm agreeing with you.

Comment on: Should I submit my website to search engines or let it happen on it's own.
I'm not a SEO specialist but yeah I'm in the industry.
Use this: https://achecker.ca/checker/index.php
You'll never clear that checker 100% so don't worry about the issues in the 3rd tab. If you have a carousel don't give a shit either because the carousel is an HTML hack. Just focus on the critical onea and maybe the majority in the middle tab. Fontawesome icons will spew errors too ...
I know that's for accessibility checking but all the major flaws also affect SEO. SEO then just focuses on how your page titles and H1 tags all line up.
People used to flood the keywords so I figure Google cut those our to a major extent. Another trick is to put your domain name in the footer.
Still the big thing is having changing content and wording your stuff based on actual search phrases. This is what they call long tail searches. I figure Google is heading towards natural language searches. This means keyword density is dead too.
Comment on: Should I submit my website to search engines or let it happen on it's own.
That should do it for most sites.
I'm glad it's showing up. I imagine Google will swing by every few days so all you need to do is start working on your content and making sure that your content on the main page is what you want it to be.
The meta tags for keywords are dropping in importance while labeling links and images with title attributes seem to be playing a bigger role than before.
Comment on: Found a good mechanical keyboard, here's what I bought..
I've thought about this on and off over the years but I like my Apple keyboard.

Comment on: Should I submit my website to search engines or let it happen on it's own.
Depends on your site structure. You don't want Google trying to index your admin area.
Comment on: Should I submit my website to search engines or let it happen on it's own.
Submit to a search engine?
Throw Google analytics on it, make sure your robots file is set, have a site map, make sure all your tags are done properly, make sure your HTML is semantic and look at long tail keywords.
For a good method to check your site. Run it through an accessibility checker and through screaming frog (something frog ...) it's a Java app so should run on all platforms.
Then make sure your content matches keywords and is updated regularly.
Domains propoganda within hours recently so no big problem there.

Over the years I've had a few GF OS's and varying degrees of luck with them. Nothing I ever loved until I came across Wife OS 1.o. Lots of good times until i realized that dependency management was shit all expensive. Like a dumb as I upgraded to Wife OS 1.1 but that included the need for Ruby and gems. Fucking gems and various version. The final straw was that fucking lock file. So I promptly erased my hard drive to start fresh.
Everybody said to use Linux. Linux is great. Get a live version in your USB dongle and insert it into the machine. But as we all know, you lose the uSB sticks so you go try another flavor. At first, a new flavor of the week is awesome but you always have to boot up and reinstall stuff. Don't get me going about how USB fits in only one direction, si have to take it out and turn it over and try again, to only realize it was the other way around. Annoying to say the least -- come on ... It's a USB stick and they are normally pretty generic when you get down to it.
Having had a chance again to try out a lot of distros I started to realize what I was really looking for. I came across what I thought was mature OS so promptly installed GF 10.0.o Beta. As a preview release it was refreshing and the eye candy GUI was pure cool aid. So when it went Golden Master I install Wife 2.0. something, about 20 year younger hipsters was intriguing. As you know, that fruit company uses Delta updates and normally things go well. The hardware it runs on is firm too. The only problem it has is that booting is expensive and new bootloaders go on sale all the time and it's the only department in the store that is always staffed. The benefit of buying new bootloaders is that Wife OS 2.o updates happily and have benefited from better and better compatibility.
Above anythibg, I really suggest trying out various distros before ever installing Wife OS 1.o. Make sure your research all the dependicies and double check for hardware compatibility. To be honest, wife OS 1.0 and even 1.1 had awesome hardware compatibility but fuck ruby, gems and version locks. Whybthe fuck would any sane person design software that locks down future features!?!
Comment on: Funny Code Comments Thread
Wife 1.0 had to many dependencies and code was expensive to maintain. Upgrading to Wife 1.1 cost an arm and a leg do to dependicies requring Ruby and lots of gens.
I finally bit the bullet and decided I just needed a new OS to become productive.

Comment on: I'm looking for an app(s) that will send back information to a server. The I formation I'm looking to record is device name, IP, IS and such.
I've built the asset management system on my own. It currently has about 50,000 items in it of which about 10,000 plus are active.
The available systems didn't really work for our situation.
Also, I am in the process of selling this to other customers.
I was think by loading each device with an app it would add value to my product and to potential customers. It would also help to reconcile data that is already on hand for the devices and an ability to possibly add new data.
Last year we had to deploy 2000 devices and data entry for them is hell.
As for paying, if an app is available I'm thinking profit sharing since I'd be bring in a lot of licenses for the developer. If I team up to have it customized to fit my needs there will still be lots of money to be made.
As in open source, are you saying there are management systems that have also an accompanying app? If so, I definitely would love to hear more!

Cool idea.
I'd go a little further than Hello World possibly a simple form that saves to a DataBase. This would be:
What's you name? Hello not World but Hello Name!
I recommend this because it covers the most basic functionality of programs.
The next step up would be: apples or oranges.
Which do you prefer? Apples or Oranges?
You prefer Oranges. That's ok too!
This second step would allow you to build an array, save the choice and display it.
Another much more concept of consider is design patterns. Getting a simple grasp of these patterns is difficult because of how they are worded. Provide a simple example for each and that alone would draw a lot of attention to what you are doing.
Check out Laracasts for the Laravel framework. There are a lot of videos that you could look to for how that person approached a lot of issues that most programmers have. Even though that site is for php and Laravel a lot of the material should crossover conceptually.

Comment on: How do i start my Software Developer path.
I'd say build a simple app that will take some variables from a simple list of items - maybe like a fruit basket and have it count all the apples, oranges, bananas ... Etc.
I'd do this in say: Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, php and Ruby.
Do this as a browser based challenge before considering an iOS, win, android app.
1 of those languages will make lots of sense to you. If they are all jibberish to you consider making a simple HTML page. If that doesn't work, consider another career choice.
Hello World examples are really simple too and will only provide just enough taste for the language that you really can only smell the coffee and not drink it.
But as others have said, build something. My take on this is build that same something in multiple languages and keep it simple enough that your time invested doesn't get you tied to a language you don't like.
Quick easy big money is Java -- lots and lots to learn before satisfaction actually feels good.
Hipster language is node.js which is basically JavaScript and isn't horribly hard to learn.
Python and Ruby are solid solid languages but emoyment mileage varies.
PHP is the crap on language of the group and has slightly lower pay but jobs are everywhere!
C# leads to .net and the world of MS but even as the dark side don't let that stop you.

Envato was suggested below and that might be a good start. However, look at what's popular and also realize that getting several thousands of buyers isn't all tang realistic.

I'd consider hitting up local dev companies and see if you can piece together work from them.
